I was planning on opening a tournament, but realized that I had to invite friends to participate. I was hoping for an option to open the tournament to the public so everyone could play, and charge a small sum of gp to make up for the costs.

If the concern is spamming of tournaments that are of little or no value. Perhaps a + or - rating system would allow for the community to self police. Or is there a different problem with allowing tournaments to be open to the public?

As far as we know, Sparticus is working on that specific feature, but doesn't have as much time as some of the rest of us do.

First, limit who gets to post maps to fifth level or above. People will complain, but you'll get a lot of the riff-raff kept out by that. If people are willing to spend that much time and still do a bunch of crap-maps, then you either (if there aren't that many) deal with it on a case-by-case basis, or you appoint someone to be a Map Mod, and delegate that specific job to that trustworthy individual or group.

It's understandable the intricacies of a pseudo-economy might take awhile to work out the kinks in.

I actually wonder if people would actually be all that spammy, it isn't exactly a trivial amount of gp to start a tourny, and if they earned that much, clearly they would have played a fair amount. I suppose a dedicated jerk could beat the system, but that goes for about any and everything...

One of the issues I will run into eventually is there will be too many geek points in everyones hands. They are given out fairly freely, but the website doesn't ever really take them back... they are just transfered to other players. Sure, when you make a tournament a few hundred gp get recycled, but in that time a few thousand have been handed out.

Give the ability to purchase things in the BTG community out of the game with GP. Small things, I don't really know... Just a way to put the GP back into nothingness instead of having a few people get uber rich. Oh, and never allow people to buy GP with real cash. That will ruin the whole thing.

Ya, I will be implementing ways to get back GP so people don't become increasingly rich. One way will be the level points idea you came up with John. I'll make it cost GP to move around your level points.

And don't worry, you'll never be able to buy GP with real cash.
